6 Questions to Ask When Setting up Massages for Private Events

To get started, here’s what you’ll want to know about the massage companies you look into. While researching massage providers, make sure they answer these questions as well as any others you might have.


1. Are your massage therapists licensed and insured?

Professional massage therapy is a licensed profession, and regulations are dealt with on a state-by-state basis. Your location will have its own set of requirements and expectations for someone practicing massage.

Make sure the therapists you get are following these regulations.


2. How far in advance do I need to plan?

Each massage company will have different abilities to staff a massage event on a moment’s notice.

If you have a specific date in mind for your private event, your best bet will be to schedule it as far in advance as possible with your massage company to ensure there is space in their schedule for you. But typically, massage companies can staff events up to a few days notice.


3. Should I have chair massage or table massage?

Depending on the nature of your event, either chair massage or table massage could work.

Chair massage is done while the client is fully clothed, sitting somewhat upright in a special chair provided by the therapist. Table massage may be clothed or unclothed with a modest covering provided by the sheets on the massage table.

For private events, the most common type of massage is chair massage, for a few reasons. For one thing, there is no need for a private room for the massages to happen in, as clients won’t be getting undressed. That makes it much easier to give massages to a lot of people.

4. How do I organize where the massages will happen?

When mapping out your event, you’ll be considering all the aspects of where different things will happen. Where’s the food? Where’s the band? How many tables and chairs will there be?

When you throw massage into the mix, it’s yet another aspect to plan for.

Fortunately, chair massage doesn’t take up much space at all. For a single massage chair, you should plan for a space about 5′-6′ square. That gives enough room for your massage therapist to move around the massage chair while they’re working.

However, if you want unclothed table massage for your private event, you’ll need a private location where a guest can undress before getting on the massage table. They’ll then be covered up with a sheet before the massage therapist enters the room.

Because of the logistics, and the fact that table massage lasts longer than chair massage, most private events just have chair massage.


5. How long will the massages last?

Chair massages at private events can be anywhere from 5-20 minutes for each session. If you have more than one massage therapist present, you’ll get that many more massages at one time.


6.How much does private event massage cost?

Here’s our price list for our massage services. Typically, you should expect to pay between $70—$100 per hour, per therapist, depending on your location.

When considering the cost of massages for private events, ask your massage company if tipping is included, or if your guests will be expected to cover tips.
